The weekly Power Rankings have expanded this week to include teams that probably have absolutely no chance at the BCS… but definitely include some that should, even with a loss. Just fifteen undefeated teams remain out of the ten dozen that comprise the top division of college football, and with that number due to dwindle throughout the season as conference battles take their toll it isn’t unthinkable that we have a season like 2007 where... We came into Week 4 last season much like we did this year, with a half-dozen non-AQ schools still alive in the BCS hunt and hoping to enter conference play without any black marks against them. We emerge out of Week 4 this year with half the teams that survived into the second trimester of the season in 2010.
Some of these losses we expected, given the step up in competition that several of the remaining six were taking. Last year Fresno State and... Read More

Sometimes it isn’t always going to be impressive. But it has to at least be a victory when all is said and done, or there is absolutely no chance for a non-AQ school to vault up to the next level and claim a BCS berth. Strong results in defeat count for naught when it comes to mid-majors breaking into the VIP suites. Since the advent of the BCS in 1998, there have been just 31 undefeated regular seasons posted by all teams in the Bowl Subdivision... Read More

After two weeks, the Heisman race is completely jumbled up. At this point in the season, there is still a lot of potential Heisman candidates that have made early statements, or are looking to make a statement in the coming weeks. Schools are launching Heisman websites for their respective candidates, and we still don’t really have a clear read on the race at this point.
In the coming weeks, the Heisman race will begin to thin out, and we will... Read More

When a new college football season begins, 53 of the 120 FBS teams currently in existence are held to the standard of perfection just to be considered for a berth in one of the five biggest bowl games on the annual schedule. And by the second week of every season, there are just a dozen or so teams who are still undefeated after taking on tougher opponents to try to sell the school’s merits with a statement victory. More often than not those... Read More
